Spring Cleaning Tips to Get the Job Done Fast
The flowers are blooming, the birds are chirping, and yet your house still feels like it’s stuck in those winter blues. Spring cleaning allows us to freshen up our homes and get ready to take on spring and summer! Are you ready to give your home a top-to-bottom buffing? We’ve got some Spring cleaning tips that will help you get the job done faster so you can start getting excited for these warmer months.
Go for Light Fixtures
You’ll find that a few minutes with a stepladder, all-purpose cleaner, a sponge, and a polish cloth will give new light to your life and your rooms. By focusing on these fixtures first, your space becomes much more open because the lighting doesn’t become diffused by any lingering dust. If your home has skylights or tall ceilings, we highly recommend investing in a stepladder and extended-reach dust-and-dirt-removal tools. You will notice the difference immediately, making the effort feel well worth it.
Target Carpets and Upholstery
Fabrics that have absorbed a whole winter’s worth of dirt, body oil, and germs are going to need some TLC to get them ready for another year of wear and tear! These pieces can take a lot of abuse, so it really shows when you take the time to give them a good scrub. Renting a proper carpet cleaner will make all the difference in time when cleaning, and you’ll see the colours spring back to life as you deep clean. Really, the longest part of this chore is waiting for the carpets and furniture to dry. This can take a day or more but you can open your windows to speed up the process and get a nice breeze going through the space.
Vacuum Smarter, Not Harder
The old rules of vacuuming dictated that you’d have to go through labour-intensive dragging and pulling to make sure all your furniture was off the carpet during spring cleaning. Of course, it makes sense that you’d want to be able to cover every nook and cranny but it’s also highly unnecessary and time-consuming. Simply move those big items a little to the left or to the right and vacuum that previously occupied space before moving it back into place. You’d be surprised at how much time this will save.
Vertical Surface Scrub Down
This is one of our more time-consuming tips but it also one that has the highest pay-off! Usually, it’s very easy to forget about the walls as they may not look like they need a wash. After all, dust and soot just falls to the floor, right? Turns out that just enough will cling to these surfaces, warranting a wipe down. Doing this will instantly brighten your rooms, giving them that fresh, clean feeling. Use a sponge and hand dishwashing detergent, washing the surface in sections. As a quick tip, when spring cleaning, use two buckets: one for dishwashing detergent solution and another for wringing out your sponge. This will save you lots of time and headaches from going over the same spots again and again.
Spring cleaning is a big commitment of both your time and your energy. You want to make sure to do a good job with the deep clean, but you’re also getting into the hectic warmer seasons where you can’t spare much time. Focusing on furnishings, fixtures, and carpeting is a great way to make some noticeable changes without spending too much time.
